SSH Client Applications

These are programs that allow to open secure UNIX/Linux sessions in a Windows environment.

The SSH (Secure SHell) protocol allows the entire session, including the exchange of passwords, to be fully encrypted. This prevents system break-ins by such methods as network-password-sniffed or the man-in-the-middle attack.

PuTTY  is a free Telnet/SSH client for Win32 and UNIX platforms along with an xterm terminal emulator (more info).

WinSCP is a graphical, easy-to-use, simple FTP-like (File Transfer Protocol) program (a secure GUI-based FTP). Its main function is secure file transfer between a local and a remote computer. Beyond this, WinSCP offers basic file manager functionality (more info).
