This is the first novel in a five book series about a boy’s struggles to save his family and his quest for Atlantis.  Jamie is a reluctant hero thrust into a perilous adventure that will take him to all four corners of the globe.

Jamie Heriod is a 12 year-old boy forced to leave London on a sailing galleon with his family to escape civil unrest and the overthrow of King George III in the late 18th Century.  Jamie and his family join Captain Franklin Morse on his ship, the Blue Moon, in search of Atlantis.  Five tall ships have banded together for the search.

The Atlantis explorers are nominally led by Captain Ference Panacles of the Golden Chariot, the last known remaining survivor of Atlantis.  Rose Island, a small tropical island in the Atlantic that is shaped like a compass rose, serves as home base for the Atlantis explorers during the storm season (November to April).  From May to October, the sailing season, the tall ships search the world for Atlantis.

On the way to Rose Island, The Blue Moon is attacked by the notorious pirate Captain Kristoff Kross – also known as the Matador.  Captain Kross, in his ship El Toro Blanco, is in search of Atlantis because he believes a vast treasure is hidden on the island.  Jamie, his 10 year-old sister Molly, and stowaway Pierre Cantona, a 12 year-old French boy, escape the attack in a dinghy.  They are rescued from the middle of the Atlantic Ocean by the Red Dawn and brought to Rose Island.  The sinister Captain Angelica Lowe, and her son, Delph, make life miserable for Jamie.  Jamie suspects that Captain Lowe has a wicked allegiance with Captain Kross.  What is worse, Captain Lowe is fond of Molly and Molly drifts away from Jamie and into Captain Lowe’s cold embrace.

A school is established on Rose Island – The Blue Moon Seamanship School.  Jamie excels at school and at sailball, a sailing game invented by the children. His immediate goal is to find his mother, father and baby brother, and release Molly from Captain Lowe. Then he must find Atlantis while preventing the pirate, Captain Kross, from destroying their last chance at happiness and freedom.
